Speaking about the Treasury Department, he noted that its main payments system, responsible for nearly $5 trillion annually, previously allowed transactions with no categorization codes or descriptions, making them effectively untraceable.
Musk said this flaw enabled large-scale waste and potential fraud, comparing it to forgotten gym memberships that continue billing indefinitely.
He called for mandatory payment categorization and explanations, describing the inefficiencies as “totally insane” but also a “target-rich environment for saving money.”
