A Fresno man pleaded guilty Monday to assault with a deadly weapon for attacking another inmate with a jail-made knife at the U.S. Penitentiary in Atwater, federal prosecutors said.

Jarvell Kent, 30, admitted to chasing and stabbing the victim inside a cell block on April 28, 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The victim was wounded and required medical attention. Another inmate also took part in the attack, authorities said.

The FBI and the Bureau of Prisons investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Veneman-Hughes is prosecuting.

Kent is set to be sentenced on June 23,  and faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, prosecutors said.
