An Orosi man was sentenced on Wednesday to 59 years-to-life in prison for a series of shootings in the Cutler-Orosi area during the summer of 2023, according to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office.

Raul Alberto Vasquez, 21, was convicted in February following a trial in Tulare County Superior Court.

He was found guilty of four felony counts of willful, deliberate, and premeditated attempted murder, along with several special allegations, including discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle and causing great bodily injury.

The shootings occurred over a month-long span. On June 27, 2023, a group of neighbors in Cutler was outside when a dark sedan passed by.

The driver rolled down the window, yelled “What’s up ese’s,” and shot at the group, striking two adult men. Both victims survived.

On July 29, 2023, Vasquez struck again. This time, a man was outside his vehicle when a dark sedan approached.

The driver yelled profanities, and when the man attempted to deescalate the situation, the driver shot at him. The man took cover, and the sedan fled. Deputies later found Vasquez in an orchard, where he was identified by the victim as the shooter.

A jury convicted Vasquez on Feb. 7, 2025.
