Health officials have confirmed a second case of measles in Fresno County, linked to a previously reported infection, the Fresno County Department of Public Health said in a statement. Health officials said the infected individual is an unvaccinated adult.

Officials are working with healthcare providers and state agencies to track potential exposures and implement preventive measures. While the risk to the general public remains low, the FCDPH urges residents to verify their measles-mumps-rubella vaccination status.

Potential exposure occurred at WinCo Foods, 396 W. Ashlan Ave. in Clovis, on Thursday, March 13, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Anyone present during this time is encouraged to complete an online survey at redcap.link/Measles_Spring25 to assess exposure risk.

Measles is a highly contagious airborne virus that can linger in the air for up to an hour after an infected person leaves an area, health officials said. Symptoms typically appear seven to 21 days after exposure and include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that starts on the face and spreads.

The FCDPH advises individuals who may have been exposed, particularly those unvaccinated or at higher risk — such as infants, pregnant individuals, and the immunocompromised — to monitor for symptoms and contact a healthcare provider if needed.

Health officials stress that vaccination is the best protection. The MMR vaccine is available through healthcare providers, pharmacies, and county-run clinics.
