A motorcyclist sustained a major head injury early Monday morning in a crash at the intersection of Plaza Drive and Crowley Avenue in Visalia, the Visalia Police Department said in a statement.

At approximately 1:51 a.m., Visalia police responded to the scene and found the rider down in the roadway.

Investigators determined the motorcyclist, traveling eastbound on Crowley Avenue, ran a red light at Plaza Drive and collided with the center median.

The impact caused the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was transported to Kaweah Health, where he is in stable condition.

Authorities are conducting a DUI investigation, as alcohol is believed to have contributed to the accident.
