Fresno police arrested 15 drivers on suspicion of DUI during an enforcement operation on Saturday, the department announced.

Drivers convicted of a first-time DUI offense face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license, authorities said.

Police plan to hold another DUI enforcement operation on March 22, with additional patrols and checkpoints scheduled throughout the year to improve road safety.

Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
