California Gov. Gavin Newsom is set to launch a new podcast, aiming to engage in conversations with a diverse range of guests, including MAGA favorites, Politico reports.

Newsom describes his approach as that of a “practitioner, not pundit,” seeking to stress-test positions and explore dialogue beyond traditional party lines.

The governor plans to leverage his position and extensive contact list to create meaningful discussions that could lead to new policy approaches and better connections with Californians. Newsom cites Bill Maher’s HBO program as creative inspiration, appreciating how Maher “calls balls and strikes” and takes aim at both parties.

“I’m here to stress test positions, including my own, in a more transparent manner.” — Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is starting a podcast

He emphasized that he’s not looking to simply reiterate progressive and liberal talking points, but rather to offer insights as a practitioner deeply involved in governing the largest state in the nation.

While Newsom declined to name specific guests, he hinted at inviting speakers from the Conservative Political Action Conference lineup. The governor believes that engaging with those who hold opposing views is crucial, criticizing Democrats for staying within their “ideological lane.”

Notably, a recent CPAC straw poll identified Newsom and Sen. Adam Schiff as the two Democrats who pose the greatest threat to the U.S. and the GOP.

As Newsom enters the final two years of his term, he faces numerous challenges, including budget pressures and rebuilding efforts after recent wildfires. The podcast will provide him with a platform to address these issues and push back against misinformation.
