The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash early Thursday morning involving a pedestrian near Manning and Zediker avenues in Fresno County, the agency said in a statement.

A 22-year-old male from Reedley, was driving a Kia Optima eastbound on Manning Avenue when, for reasons under investigation, a 38-year-old male from Parlier was walking in the same lane.
Despite braking, the vehicle struck the pedestrian, throwing him to the center median where he died.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
No injuries were reported for the driver, and he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A toxicology report for the deceased pedestrian is pending.
