Polls Show Americans Divided on Mass Deportation

Despite Trump’s claims of a “powerful mandate” for mass deportation, polling data presents a more complex picture.

While some 2024 surveys suggest majority support for deporting undocumented immigrants, others show approval below 40%, The Conversation reported.

Analysis of 12 polls over the past eight years indicates that while overall support for deportation has increased from 22% to 44%, legalization remains the preferred option. In 2024, more than 54% of respondents favored a pathway to legal status, while less than 45% supported mass deportation.

The divide is largely partisan. Republican support for deportation has surged to 70%, while Democratic views have remained stable, with 90% favoring legalization.

Despite shifting GOP sentiment, a majority of Americans continue to prefer legalizing long-term undocumented residents over deporting them.
