Southwest Airlines added a fourth nonstop destination to routes to and from Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

Beginning Oct. 2, travelers can take direct flights to San Diego International Airport, according to an airport news release.

“Southwest Airlines is a valued airline partner and continues to grow its presence in California’s Central Valley,” said Henry Thompson, the city’s director of aviation. “The additional San Diego service operated by Southwest Airlines demonstrated the airline’s confidence in our market and is timely with the excitement and growth occurring at FAT, including the anticipated completion of the new terminal expansion in fall 2025.”

San Diego Airport Had Its Busiest Year in 2024

The San Diego airport had its busiest year in 2024, according to the Times of San Diego. The 25.24 million travelers going through the airport surpassed the previous record of 25.18 million in 2019.

If the San Diego Padres continue their playoff appearance streak, the October premiere of flights will come just in time to catch a playoff game at Petco Park. The San Diego destination means an even closer destination to Mexico — though travelers can get direct flights to Guadalajara, Leon, and Morelia from Fresno’s airport.

San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter offers an extensive nightlife.

Southwest also offers direct flights from Fresno to Las Vegas, Denver, and Dallas Love Field.
