A Clovis man was sentenced Thursday to 27 years to life in state prison for the attempted murder of his estranged wife, nearly a year after he shot her in the face, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Manuel Ramirez Jr., 37, received his sentence from Judge William Terrence of the Fresno County Superior Court following a plea deal reached in December, officials said.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of Feb. 13, 2024, when Clovis police responded to a welfare check after a caller reported Ramirez had killed his wife.

Officers found the victim alive but suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. She was transported to Community Regional Medical Center and placed in a medically induced coma.

Ramirez was arrested shortly after at a family member’s home and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
