Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp said Monday that the team has informed him it will seek a trade, signaling a potential end to his eight-year tenure with the franchise.
In a statement posted on social media, Kupp, the Super Bowl 56 MVP, expressed disappointment in the decision but said he would work with the team to find a suitable destination.
“I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA,” Kupp wrote. “Still, if there’s one thing that I have learned over the years: there are so many things that are out of your control, but it is how you respond to these things that you will look back on and remember.”
Kupp Was Uncertain After Season Finisher
Kupp, 31, remains under contract with the Rams for two more seasons as part of a three-year, $80.1 million extension he signed following his historic 2021 campaign. However, his contract is set to count nearly $30 million against the salary cap in 2025, making a move financially significant for the team, AP reported.
The Rams explored trade discussions involving Kupp early in the 2024 season when they opened with a 1-4 record. At the time, he was recovering from injury.
Kupp said he is healthy and motivated for the 2025 season, emphasizing his commitment to competing at a high level.
“2024 began with one of the best training camps of my career,” he wrote. “Preparations start now for 2025. Highly motivated, as healthy as ever, and looking forward to playing elite football for years to come.”
Kupp has spent his entire career with the Rams, winning the receiving Triple Crown in 2021 and helping lead the team to a Super Bowl title.
