Residents in northern California are bracing for a “Pineapple Express” that could drop buckets of rain as early as Friday followed by as many as many as three atmospheric rivers through Feb. 8.

If the storms reach their full potential, meteorologists say, NorCal would see widespread flooding.

Light Rain for Fresno as Early as Friday Night

The earliest of those storms are expected to brush Fresno with rain as early as Friday night and continue through at least Saturday, Feb. 8.

The projected daily rainfall amounts are not significant but are expected to total about a half inch on Monday and Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Hanford said in its daily forecast discussion. Foothill regions could receive an inch or more of rain.

Fresno has received 3.09 inches, which is 60% of normal for the rain season to date.

Snow isn’t expected below 9,000 feet elevation Friday through Sunday, but there’s a 50% to 90% chance of 4 inches of snow above 7,000 feet with the second storm, NWS said.

Meanwhile, a Freeze Warning will be in effect through Thursday, and drivers are advised to watch for fog as visibility could drop to a quarter-mile.
