After 20 days on the frontlines of Southern California’s relentless wildfire season, the Clovis Fire Department’s Engine OES 5306 and its dedicated crew are finally heading home, the Clovis Fire Department said Monday.

Dispatched as part of Strike Team 5801C, the team worked tirelessly across three base camps and one preposition location, responding to five fires, including the devastating Palisades Fire in Los Angeles and the Border 2 Fire in San Diego County.

Their last assignment at the Border 2 Fire offered a striking ridge-top view into Tijuana, Mexico, as the team fought to control a blaze that spread 10,000 acres in just 24 hours.

Despite challenging conditions, containment now stands at 43%, aided by much-needed rain.

The Palisades Fire, which began on Jan. 7, destroyed or damaged nearly 8,000 structures, claimed 11 lives, and injured three civilians and at least one firefighter.

Thanks to the united efforts of Central Valley firefighters and others across the state, the fire is now 90% contained.

As the Clovis crew returns, their bravery and commitment offer a moment of hope and gratitude amid the ongoing challenges of California’s wildfire season.
