A crash involving a Madera Unified School District school bus and a dump truck left one person with major injuries Friday morning, the CHP reported.

No students were on board the bus at the time of the collision.

The crash occurred around 11:25 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue 12 and Road 26.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 72-year-old man driving the school bus failed to yield at the intersection, entering the path of a westbound Freightliner dump truck driven by a 58-year-old man.

The dump truck struck the front right side of the bus, causing it to spin 180 degrees.

The truck then veered northwest, sideswiping a PG&E power pole before stopping on the shoulder.

The bus driver sustained major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center. The dump truck driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at Saint Agnes Medical Center.

Both were wearing seat belts, and neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected to be factors.
