A 32-year-old woman from Tulare was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Mooney Boulevard on Sunday, the Tulare Police Department said in a statement.

Authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 8:15 PM reporting an individual on the roadway near Cross Avenue and Mooney Boulevard.

Emergency responders arrived and found the victim, but despite attempts to administer life-saving measures, she died.

Officers determined that the woman had been walking back from a store when she was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Driver Returns to the Scene

The driver, Dominick Nunez, 26, of Visalia, initially fled the scene but later returned and confessed to the incident.

He stated that he fled due to fear but cooperated with authorities. There was no indication that alcohol was involved in the accident, authorities said.

Police said that Nunez was arrested for felony hit-and-run and transported to the Tulare County Jail.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Officers believe additional vehicles may have struck the woman, and they are asking anyone with information on the drivers to come forward.
