A 67-year-old man had major injuries in a hit-and-run crash Monday evening on Road 28 near Ellis Street in Madera, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:42 p.m. when an unknown vehicle traveling northbound struck the pedestrian, who was also heading north.

Officers responding to the scene found the man lying in the roadway. The driver fled immediately and has not been located.

The victim, identified as a Hispanic male from Madera, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.

Investigators have yet to determine whether the man was walking in the roadway or on the shoulder at the time of the crash.

It is also unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect vehicle to contact the CHP Madera Area office at (559) 507-8120.
