Cornerback Alzillion Hamilton’s New Year’s resolution for 2025 was to return to the Fresno State football team, again. The fifth-year senior withdrew his name from the transfer portal on Wednesday to remain a Bulldog.

Hamilton wrote on Instagram: “After careful reflection on my future and final year of college football, I’ve decided to withdraw from the transfer portal and stay at Fresno State.”

His transfer portal journey has been a whirlwind. He leaves, returns, leavesĀ  and now officially is back with the team.

Hamilton’s Journey as a Bulldog

Hamilton’s timeline: enters on Tuesday, Dec. 3; withdraws on Tuesday, Dec. 17, just in time to play in the Bulldogs’ Famous Idaho Potato Bowl loss, and having three tackles; re-enters on Thursday, Dec. 26.

For his 2024 campaign he was a preseason All-Mountain West conference selection, accumulating 51 tackles and two interceptions on the year. He ranked No. 3 (MW) in passes defended with 13 passes broken up. He was one half a solid defensive back tandem with NFL prospect Cam Lockridge.

Impact on Fresno State’s Secondary

This must make DBs coach JD Williams happy as he’ll also remain with the program under new coach Matt Entz.

Having a returning veteran of Hamilton’s caliber will mean a great deal to a secondary hit with key losses. Lockridge is heading to the pros while seniors Dean Clark and Kosi Agina have no remaining eligibility and Julian Neal transferred to Stanford.

Gus Remlinger Leaves Program to Pursue Track & Field

Redshirt freshman DB Gus Remlinger declared for the portal on Tuesday to pursue a collegiate track and field career.

Remlinger wrote on X: “I’m proud to announce that I will be pursing my dream of competing in track & field at the collegiate and world level. Because of this I will be entering the transfer portal with 3 years of athletic eligibility left.”

The Buchanan graduate and MW Scholar-Athlete saw limited action in his Bulldog career. He leaves behind his brother, senior defensive lineman Charles Remlinger.

Matt Smith Stays on Entz’s Staff

Fresno State announced on Thursday that head coach Matt Entz will keep last season’s offensive line coach Matt Smith on staff, but in a new role as the offensive quality control assistant.

He’s going on 10 years with the program heading into 2025 having been a player on the offense line (2016-21), an o-line graduate assistant (2022-2023), and the position coach (2024).
