Junior guard Amar Augillard, who opened the season with a 30-point performance against Sacramento State, is no longer with the Fresno State men’s basketball team.
24/7 Sports reported on X that Bulldogs coach Vance Walberg announced Augillard’s departure from the program on Saturday’s pregame show with Paul Loeffler: “Amar is no longer on the team. It just wasn’t working out. He wasn’t happy and it ended up being the best to part ways.”
The Bulldogs fell 86-69 to Cal Baptist on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center. It was their second loss to the Lancers (6-6) this season. Cal Baptist entered the contest having lost three straight games.
In 11 games before the matchup against Cal Baptist, Augillard started four and was second in the team in scoring average (13.3) while making 83% of his free throws. However, in 223 minutes played, he had just six assists.
Augillard’s Background
The 6’5 2024 NJCAA DI Player of the Year from Triton came into the season with promise. He averaged 22.7 points per game in 2023-24 and ranked No. 2 in the nation in total points (841), field goals made (296) and three-point field goals made (122) while leading the Trojans to the DI national championship game.
Fresno State (0-1, 4-8) resumes Mountain West play on Saturday at UNLV (0-0, 6-5) at 7 p.m. The game will stream on the Mountain West Network.
