A driver narrowly escaped injury this morning after falling asleep at the wheel, causing their pickup truck to overturn multiple times at the four-lane segment of Highway 168 on Friday, the California Highway Patrol. The four-lane is where Highway 168 begins its steep climb into the Sierra.

The accident occurred on a stretch of road described as clear, dry, and free of hazards. Despite these conditions, fatigue proved to be a dangerous factor, the CHP said.

Authorities report that the driver was wearing a seatbelt, which played a critical role in preventing injury.

Drivers are urged to prioritize rest and remain alert while on the road.

Safety officials emphasize the message: “Drive Safe, Drive Alert, Drive Rested. Your safety is worth the extra rest.”
