A Madera woman was arrested Wednesday evening after crashing her car into an almond orchard while allegedly driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident began around 7:51 p.m. when a motorist reported a Ford Fusion weaving off the roadway near Avenue 12 and Road 40.

The car veered across the eastbound lane, left the road, struck an almond tree, and continued approximately 10 rows into the orchard.

CHP investigators later learned the driver, 42, had fled the scene of a prior collision with a parked car in the Riverstone community before the orchard crash.

A breath test reportedly revealed her blood alcohol content was four times the legal limit.

Neither the driver nor her passenger was injured, authorities said.
