A man suffered second-degree burns after an explosion destroyed a fifth-wheel trailer early Wednesday morning, the Tulare County Fire Department said in a statement.

Tulare County Fire Department crews responded just after midnight to a report of an explosion. They found the trailer heavily damaged and the injured man outside.

The victim was transported to a Fresno burn unit for treatment.

Investigators believe the explosion was caused by a gas leak from a portable propane heater inside the trailer.

The exact cause remains under investigation.
