A fog-related collision near Parlier claimed the life of a driver and injured his passenger Tuesday morning, the CHP said in a news release.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of McCall and Parlier avenues, just north of Selma.

A Chevrolet truck traveling westbound on Parlier Avenue reportedly stopped at a stop sign before proceeding into the intersection, where it struck the right front of a northbound commercial big rig.

The collision forced the Chevrolet under the big rig, igniting the truck in flames and ejecting the male driver onto the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The Fresno County Sheriff—Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as Armando Jimenez Cadena, 36, of Del Rey, on Wednesday.

Authorities reported Wednesday that the female passenger remains in critical condition.

The big rig driver was not injured.

Authorities cited dense fog as a likely factor in the crash. They warned of increased accidents in the area due to poor visibility, urging drivers to reduce speed and use low-beam headlights during foggy conditions.
