R&B Concerts, Comedy, & Worship Take Center Stage This Weekend

Can’t go wrong with the variety of events to choose from this weekend. Keyshia Cole and Brian McKnight will provide soul hits for those looking for a romantic night out.

Tower Theatre is the place to watch viral sensation Nate Jackson’s comedy or celebrate the anniversary of Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece “Pulp Fiction.”

Enjoy a night of prayer and music at the Air 1 Worship Now Tour.

Meanwhile, the centerpieces for the community events in Fresno and Clovis will be tacos and local brew.

Brian McKnight

Singer Brian McKnight will serenade the Tachi Palace on Saturday with his love jams. He’s a singer-songwriter, actor, record producer, radio personality, and multi-instrumentalist. He’s received 16 Grammy Award nominations. Singles like “Love Is,” “One Last Cry,” “You Should Be Mine (Don’t Waste Your Time),” and “Back at One,” solidified him as one of the top R&B vocalists of the 90s and early 2000s.

Keyshia Cole

The audience loved seeing singer Keyshia Cole perform at Selland Arena at the R&B Night Out this past August. The reception was so great that she’s returning for an intimate performance at Club Encore this Saturday.

She’s a renowned singer, songwriter, and actress, and gained prominence with her second album, “Just Like You” (2007), featuring hits like “Let It Go” (featuring Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim) and “I Remember.” The album, which peaked atĀ  No.2 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum, earned four Grammy nominations.

Cole is called the “Princess of Hip Hop Soul,” and she showed the Valley that she’s still got it last time.

Pulp Fiction

Celebrate the 30-year anniversary of one of the most prominent movies of the 90s with a special screening of Quentin Tarantino’s crime film “Pulp Fiction” at Tower Theatre on Friday. Tarantino won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

The film is regarded as Tarantino’s magnum opus. Entertainment Weekly named it the best film since 1983. Critics consider it one of the greatest films ever made. In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Nate Jackson

Funnyman Nate Jackson is making his mark through his viral content and remarkable engagement on TikTok. He’ll perform at the Tower on Saturday and because his show sold out so quickly they added another one.

He’s also an actor, writer, and digital creator, and he has amassed over 3 million followers and more than 500 million views globally. He’s appeared on “SPIRITED” (Apple), “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (HBO), “Nick Cannon Presents Wild’N Out” (MTV), “All Def Comedy” (HBO), “Kevin Hartā€™s Hart of the City” (Comedy Central), “Comic View” (BET), and “Laff Mobbā€™s Laff Tracks” (TruTV).

Air 1 Worship Now Tour

The Air 1 Worship Tour comes to the Save Mart Center on Friday. It’ll feature an all-star lineup of prominent Christian artists like Crowder, We The Kingdom, CAIN, Passion, and Jon Reddick. There also will be inspirational teachings from author and speaker Louie Giglio.

Crowder has achieved Gold status with worship singles “All My Hope,” “Red Letters,” “Wildfire,” and “Good God Almighty.” We The Kingdom is a band of relatives who’ve earned two Grammy Award nominations in 2021 in Christian genre categories. CAIN is comprised of a sibling triplet who broke onto the scene with their breakout single, “Rise Up (Lazarus).” Passion has released 28 albums over the span of two decades. Jon Reddick is a worship pastor and singer.

Slice of Comedy Headlining Jono Zalay, Friday

Stand-up comedian Jono Zalay will perform Friday at DiCiccoā€™s in Old Town Clovis. Zalay has done standup for “The Late Late Show” on CBS and the Netflix is a Joke festival,. He also has been named one of Comedy Centralā€™s ā€˜Comics to Watch,ā€™ guest-hosted on E!, and earned international press for his pranks on the DMV. He performs and writes for TV, with his work airing on ABC, Hulu, Peacock, CNN & Prime Video.

Charity Poker Tournament, Friday

A charity poker tournament will take place at Club One Casino on Friday. Prizes will be given for first through fifth places, and the top two will receive Derek Carr signed memorabilia. 80% of the proceeds are designated for Valley Children’s Hospital to help fund patient care services and programs. The event host is on-air personality Gnarley Charley.

Tastes & Cheers of the Tower, Thursday

Tastes & Cheers of the Tower is going down at the Tower District on Thursday. Enjoy food from local eateries and beer tastings from some of the finest Central Valley breweries. With your exclusive wristband, unlock special deals and discounts at participating Tower businesses. Participants will receive a swag bag filled with goodies, a detailed map of local businesses, and a commemorative tasting cup.

Trailblazer Expo, Saturday-Sunday

There’s an anime extravaganza taking place at the Fresno Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday. It’s a Genshin Impact/Honkai: Star Rail theme event featuring a special guest voice actor from both series. There’s gaming tournaments and a cosplay contest. Check out the vendors and meet the artists.

Dan Forrest’s “Creation”

Fresno Master Chorale will perform Dan Forrestā€™s “Creation” on Sunday at Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall. It’s the first time this work will be performed in California. Inspired by Haydnā€™s masterpiece “The Creation,” Forrest has written a modern-day score that captures the immense beauty in the world, in this choral concert with orchestra.

Steven Sanchez, a resident of Clovis, graduated from Buchanan High School in the class of 2007 and obtained his film degree from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Steven is a multifaceted artist, working as a filmmaker, writer, photographer, videographer, and published author. He has a profound passion for movies, comic books, and rock ā€˜nā€™ roll.
