A serious crash unfolded on State Route 180 near the 99 interchange after a driver with extremely dark-tinted windows failed to see a pickup truck in the neighboring lane, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

Officers said that while attempting a lane change, the driver’s limited visibility led to a collision that pushed the pickup truck off the road and into a large tree.

The incident brings renewed attention to the importance of visibility on the road.
“Keeping visibility clear is critical for everyone’s safety on the road,” CHP said on social media. “Although the driver will have a lengthy recovery, we are grateful he is still with us.”
