The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft hosted a webinar on Oct. 13, 2023, addressing Israel’s ground operations in the Gaza Strip, which began less than a week after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.

A year later, Gaza has been devastated: 90% of the population is displaced, and over 42,000 people are confirmed dead, with many more likely dead or dying. On Oct. 1, 2024, Israel also invaded Lebanon.

Israel continues to occupy Gaza, reportedly “systematically emptying” northern Gaza, while escalating its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

There is also potential for further strikes on Iran, which could draw in the U.S., other regional powers, and possibly Russia and China into a broader global conflict.

Trita Parsi, executive VP of the Quincy Institute, moderated the panel. In this clip, Palestinian-American activist, professor, legal scholar, and human rights attorney Noura Erakat discusses the invasion and displacement, and how Gazans have no civilian spaces.
