A variety of events that are scheduled this weekend are getting October off to a rousing start. The Big Fresno Fair returns, featuring a concert series with big names like Sugar Ray and Sheila E. to kick things off.

Get into the spooky spirit early with the Bully Boo Walk at Woodward Park, then visit Raisin Hell Ranch for some thrills. Additionally, meet horror icons Dave Sheridan and Felissa Rose at Partyworks locations across the Central Valley.

The Big Fresno Fair Concerts, Wednesday-Sunday

The Table Mountain Concert Series returns to the Paul Paul Theater in the 2024 Big Fresno Fair. The 13-night event will entertain audiences who are fans of different genres.

Country singer Walker Hayes will kick off the series on Wednesday. His 2021 smash hit “Fancy Like” topped country music sales and streaming charts, solidifying his status as one of the top-selling and most-streamed artists in the genre.

Pop rock band Sugar Ray perform on Thursday. They’ve sold 10 million records and have four Top 10 songs and more than a billion streams. Their 1997 single ā€œFlyā€ propelled them to superstardom. They expanded their discography with hits like ā€œSomeday,ā€ ā€œFalls Apart,ā€ and ā€œEvery Morning.ā€

Sheila E. and Midnight Star will take the stage on Friday. Sheila E. has performed and recorded with renowned artists such as Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, and Stevie Nicks. She served as the drummer, songwriter, and musical director for Prince’s backup band, showcasing her talents in producing, arranging, and performance across the music and film industries.

Midnight Star is celebrated for hits like ā€œMake It Last,ā€ ā€œSearching for Love,ā€ ā€œFreak-A-Zoid,ā€ ā€œNo Parking on the Dance Floor,ā€ and ā€œWet My Whistle,ā€ along with classics such as ā€œOperatorā€ and ā€œMidas Touch.ā€

On Saturday, Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea will bring Latin flair to the stage. This all-female ensemble is a two-time Grammy Award winner with seven nominations and three Latin Grammy nominations, making them one of the longest-running all-female mariachi groups.

El Flaco vs. El Mimoso face off on Sunday. Luis Angel, aka ā€œEl Flaco,ā€ is a Banda singer who weaves romanticas, rancheras, and other styles into emotional and lyrical essences. His 2021’s ā€œLa Textileraā€ was a collaboration with El Mimoso (Luis Antonio López Flores) and registered more than 60 million streams.

López was once a vocalist for Don Cruz LizĆ”rraga’s widely adored Banda El Recodo. He incorporates elements of the regional styles NorteƱo, Ranchera, and Cumbia in his solo career.

Dine & Discover West Africa 2024, Friday, Engelmann Cellars

Dine & Discover West Africa 2024 will be held Friday at Engelmann Cellars west of Fresno. Guests can enjoy an authentic West African buffet, featuring grilled chicken and spicy soup, while experiencing cultural arts performances from the region.

Attendees can shop for handcrafted jewelry, art, and paintings from Guinea-Bissau, as well as bid on various silent auction items and participate in an exciting live auction featuring local cabin getaways.

All proceeds will support the future leaders of West Africa by equipping young men and women in Guinea-Bissau with life-changing job skills.

Raisin Hell Ranch Haunted Corn Field General Admission 2024, Friday-Sunday

Raisin Hell Ranch will kick off its general admission opening weekend from Friday through Sunday. Recognized as one of the scariest haunted attractions in the Central Valley, the Madera County venue features a cornfield with various mazes designed to frighten the brave.

Following record-breaking attendance in 2020, the attraction has been redesigned and upgraded to enhance the haunting experience. This year promises even more scares and thrills for those daring enough to enter.

Central Valley Fallen Heroes Car Show, Saturday, California 9/11 Memorial in Clovis

The Central Valley Fallen Heroes will host their annual Car Show on Saturday at the California 9/11 Memorial east of Peach Avenue in Clovis. The event honors the men and women who have served the community and country. Attendees can enjoy live music, food trucks, and educational and recreational activities for all ages. Supported agencies, including the military, police, and fire departments, will make special appearances.

Bully Boo Walk, Sunday, Woodward Park

The Bully Boo Walk will be held Sunday at Woodward Park, featuring a 2-mile walk. Participants are encouraged to dress their dogs in Halloween costumes and enjoy trick-or-treating at vendor booths. The event also includes a photo booth and a costume contest judged by celebrity guests.

All dog breeds are welcome to participate, not just “bully breeds.” Proceeds will benefit Fresno Bully Rescue.

Slice of Comedy Headlining Danny Minch, Friday

Stand-up comedian Danny Minch will perform Friday at DiCicco’s Old Town Clovis. Minch, known for his work in the Central Valley comedy scene, has opened for comedians Brad Garrett, Jim Jefferies, Bob Zany, and Kabir Singh.

Music in the Garden Ripe for the Pickin, Thursday

The Music in the Garden series continues Thursday at Shinzen Friendship Garden in Woodward Park with a performance by bluegrass band Ripe for the Pickin’. The group is known for its renditions of classics by the Grateful Dead, The Eagles, and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of music and relaxation.

Solitary Cellars, Friday and Sunday

Solitary Cellars will host its monthly event Friday, featuring award-winning wine, handcrafted sangria, and premium cigars from Perfect Blend Fine Cigars. The Station BBQ will provide food, with live music by Donnie Mustachio. The 21-and-over event is free to attend.

On Sunday, the Fall 2024 Chain Gang Wine Release Event will showcase Solitary Cellars’ 2022 The Lifer Red Wine Blend. The event, held on the Big Yard, will feature food from Eat It Up and live music by The Dinner Crowd. Paid reservations are required.

Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Thursday

Two-time Grammy Award–winning folk singer Molly Tuttle will perform Thursday at the Tower Theatre. Tuttle, also a songwriter and musician, boasts an impressive list of accolades, including Album of the Year at the 2023 International Folk Music Awards, Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2022 International Bluegrass Music Awards, and Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2018 Americana Music Awards. She made history as the first woman to win Guitar Player of the Year at the IBMA Awards in 2017 and 2018. Tuttle will be joined by her band, Golden Highway. Long Forgotten will open the show.

You Should Be Dancing – A Tribute to the Bee Gees, Saturday

You Should Be Dancing — A Tribute to the Bee Gees will bring the band’s spirit back to life at Warnors Theatre on Saturday. The group faithfully recreates their iconic sound by elevating the onstage visual experience. They capture the essence of the brothers Gibb, delivering an experience that transports audiences back to the golden era of disco and beyond. They’ll play classics like ā€œStayin’ Alive,ā€ ā€œNight Fever,ā€ and ā€œHow Deep Is Your Love.ā€

Hocus Pocus Brunch & Movie Screening, Saturday

The Mainzer Theater in Merced will screen the Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus” on Saturday. It’s an all-ages event and free to attend. Enjoy all-new brunch dishes from their restaurant while viewing the film.

Celebrities at PartyWorks with Dave Sheridan and Felissa Rose, Saturday & Sunday

Partyworks party supply store will host signings with actors Dave Sheridan and Felissa Rose on Saturday and Sunday at all four Valley locations. Sheridan is known for his role as Special Officer Doofy from ā€œScary Movie,ā€ and Rose is known for portraying Angela in the slasher classic ā€œSleepaway Camp.ā€

Evanelle Vineyards Halloween Movie Series

Evanelle Vineyards in Madera will be hosting their outdoor movie events Halloween Movie Series every Tuesday throughout October.

  • Oct. 15 — “The Grudge,”
  • Oct. 22 — “Halloweentown,”
  • Oct. 29 — “Scream (18+ only)

Happy Hour goes from 5:45 p.m. — 6:45 p.m. Movies start at 7:30 p.m.
