Fresno State has released its schedule for the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season, and it includes an early season Mountain West home game against perennial power San Diego State.

The big test will come on Dec. 4 when the Bulldogs open their conference schedule with the Aztecs at the Save Mart Center. The game will provide an opportunity for the Red Wave to gauge what a rebuilding program can do under first-year head coach Vance Walberg. .

The 31-game schedule includes 14 home games, 15 road games, and two neutral-site contests.Ā The 20-game conference schedule is subject to date changes as the conferenceā€™s broadcast partners select the games for broadcast. Tip times and date changes will be announced in the coming month.

The Bulldogs open the season at home on Nov. 8 against Sacramento State. The road schedule begins the following week with trips to UC Santa Barbara and CSU Bakersfield.

Fresno State will play in front of a national television audience in the Acrisure Holiday Invitational in Palm Desert. The five-day road trip includes a game against Long Beach State on Nov. 23, followed by the Acrisure tournament with games against Washington State on Nov. 26 and either SMU or Cal Baptist the next day.

Conference Play and Nonconference Matchups

After facing Big West opponents in their first three road games, the Bulldogs will take on teams from the West Coast Conference and Big 12, traveling to Santa Clara on Dec. 7.

BYU, which made the NCAA Tournament last season, will present a big challenge on Dec. 11. In 2023, the Cougars overwhelmed Fresno State, 85-56, in Salt Lake City.

Nonconference play will conclude with two home games at the Save Mart Center against San Diego on Dec. 14 and Cal Baptist on Dec. 21.

The Bulldogs will return to conference play on Dec. 28, traveling to UNLV before closing out 2024 at home against New Mexico on New Year’s Eve.

Walberg’s First Year

Walberg was hired as the new head coach of the program on April 6, replacing Justin Hutson, who led the Bulldogs to a 12-21 record (4-14 in conference) in his final season. Walberg will implement his dribble drive motion offense with the team. Locals are familiar with him from his two stints at Clovis West High School. Walberg has experience at every level, including the NBA, college, community college, and high school.

There’s several new players to watch. Junior forward Alex Crawford became Walbergā€™s first signee after one season at San Diego City College and earning All-State recognition.

The 2024 NJCAA DI Player of the Year junior guard Amar Augillard from Triton College in Illinois joined the squad. He finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation in total points (841), field goals made (296) and 3-point field goals made (122). He broke Triton school records.

Junior guard Jasir Tremble was an NJCAA Division III Second Team All-American this year and a First Team All-Region selection and region tournament MVP while leading Prince Georgeā€™s CC to a 22-7 record that included Region 20 DIII and Mid-Atlantic District Championships. He was selected to play in the NJCAA Menā€™s Basketball All-Star Game and was named MVP of the South All-Stars.
