The Fresno Police Department has arrested several students this month who are suspected of making threats to commit shootings at local schools, according to a social media post on Friday.

On Tuesday, a 17-year-old student was arrested for allegedly threatening to commit a shooting at Justin Garza High School in west Fresno.

This arrest follows a string of similar incidents, and police emphasized their commitment to addressing the fear and disruption caused by these threats.

On Sept. 13, a 13-year-old was arrested after police said he threatened to shoot his teacher when told to put his cellphone away. Police did not identify the school where the incident occurred.

In other incidents, a 13-year-old student was arrested on Sept. 10 after police said he made a shooting threat at Scandinavian Middle School in east-central Fresno, and a 14-year-old student was taken into custody on Sept. 5 after police said he threatened to commit a shooting at Ahwahnee Middle School in northeast Fresno.

The Fresno Police Department said that all threats, particularly those made on social media, will be thoroughly investigated.

Got a Tip?

Authorities are urging the community to avoid sharing threats online and instead report them directly to the Fresno Police Department.

Anyone who becomes aware of a local threat is encouraged to contact the Fresno Police Department at (559) 621-7000.
