Police body camera footage has been released showing an interview with Colt Gray, the suspected Apalachee High School shooter, and his father Colin Gray, conducted a year before the tragic Georgia incident.

In May 2023, Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies questioned the pair after receiving an FBI tip about the teen threatening to shoot up a middle school on Discord. The footage shows Colin Gray admitting to having accessible weapons in the house, stating, “We do a lot of shooting. We do a lot of deer hunting. He shot his first deer this year.”

The father expressed shock at the allegations, saying, “I’m pretty much in shock, to be honest with you. I’m a little p****ed off, to be even really honest with you.” Colt Gray denied knowledge of the threat, suggesting, “Maybe they misheard somebody else.”

Despite the investigation being closed due to lack of substantiation, the Discord account in question reportedly made mentions of Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook shooter. A Discord spokesperson confirmed that an account associated with Gray was removed in May 2023 for violating policies against extremism.

Colin Gray revealed ongoing communication with school officials, mentioning his son was “picked on” and “struggling with the separation” of his parents. He pleaded with officers to impress upon his son the seriousness of such threats.

One year later, Colt Gray, now 14, is accused of using an AR-15-style weapon to kill two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School. His father faces multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to children. Reports indicate Colin Gray purchased the weapon as a holiday gift for his son in December 2023, months after the initial investigation.
