Fresno detectives want the public’s help in tracking down the assailants responsible for separate homicides over the weekend.

Shooting Kills 21-Year-Old

Christopher Worthy, 21, died after being shot at about 1 a.m. Saturday near Santa Clara Avenue and B Street in southwest Fresno, the police department said Monday morning in a news release.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired and found Worthy in a grassy area in front of an apartment complex. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Detectives say it’s believed that Worthy and the assailant got into an argument before the fatal shooting.

Anyone with tips on this case is urged to call homicide detective R. Montoya, (559) 621-2449, or detective J. Baroni, (559) 621-2516. Tipsters can remain anonymous by contacting Valley Crime Stoppers, (559) 498-7867.

Fatal Stabbing at Martin Ray Reilly Park

Jared Rogers, 23, died after midnight Sunday in southeast Fresno after being stabbed multiple times in the upper torso, police said.

Officers found Rogers after responding to a call about a bloody man at Martin Ray Reilly Park, 750 N. Chestnut Ave. Although initially responsive to officers at the scene, he lost consciousness and later died at CRMC.

Detectives learned that the fatal stabbing followed an altercation between Rogers and another man near the park’s gazebo. Witnesses described the assailant as about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, slightly built, and wearing a shiny blue shirt. Detectives want to locate additional witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact homicide detective M. Moreno, (559) 621-2443 or detective A. Lopez, (559) 621-2072. Tipsters can remain anonymous by contacting Valley Crime Stoppers, (559) 498-7867.
