The Kern County Democratic Party has demanded that Wasco Mayor Alex Garcia step down from his position on the city council.

This call comes in response to allegations about the mayor on social media.

The San Joaquin Valley Sun reported about “a social media post alleging the Kern County mayor was ensnared in a ‘To Catch a Predator’-like sting.”

In a news release, the Kern County Democratic Party stated it “condemns any acts of violence, sexual assault and harassment in any form, especially when involving an individual who cannot give consent, such as a minor.”

Wasco officials expressed concern about the allegations, pledging to cooperate with a Bakersfield Police Department investigation.

However, the Kern County Democratic Party, the city of Wasco, and the Bakersfield Police Department haven’t revealed the nature of the accusations.
