The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit has arrested Angel Romero, 29, of Fresno, in connection with the 2019 gun homicide of Andres Cardenas, 75, of Dinuba.

Romero was arrested Sunday and booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of murder, possession of cocaine for sale, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. His bail is set at $1.575 million.

The case dates back to March 23, 2019, when deputies discovered Cardenas fatally shot in a plum orchard near East Springfield and Alta Avenues in Reedley. Cardenas, a long-time farm worker, was working on his family’s ranch when he was killed.

Investigators say that Romero, then 24, shot Cardenas during a robbery attempt.
