When she was appointed Fresno Unified’s interim superintendent in May, Misty Her had said her goals included creating a 100-Day Plan to take into the new school year.

Late Friday afternoon, the district posted the plan’s framework on social media, outlining how Her will focus on two of the district’s main goals, “improving student outcomes” and “achieving operational excellence.”

According to the social media postings, Her’s plan comes in four phases. The first, in May and June, included listening sessions and “data dives.” Phase 2 in June and July was to identify the two top priorities and then communicate the plan — which presumably is what happened Friday afternoon.

Phase 3 in August and September is when the plan will be implemented and regular progress monitoring shared. Phase 4, for October and “onward,” is when the district will “engage in continuous improvement cycles” and provide monthly updates both internally and externally.

While the social media posts and the website posting are long on platitudes, they appear to be short on specifics and details. GV Wire reached out Friday afternoon by text to Her to see if she can elaborate on how student outcomes will be improved, which outcomes are being addressed, and how the district will measure achieving operational excellence. She did not immediately respond.

Later Friday, Her responded that she has shared her detailed plan with the trustees but had not made it available to the public.

Metrics and Progress Plans

According to the district’s online posts, “Interim Superintendent Her is aligning our entire Fresno Unified family behind these two highest priorities (improving student outcomes and achieving operational excellence). Each of these goals have metrics and progress monitoring plans. Progress will be shared publicly throughout implementation.”

When she was named to the job in May Her said her goals included “double-digit improvement.”

The district’s post of Her’s 100-Day Plan includes the acknowledgement that she is serving in the district’s top job until the School Board conducts a national search and finds a permanent replacement for former Superintendent Bob Nelson. However, that search is on a hiatus until School Board members can gather over the Labor Day weekend for a training session.
