Fresno State Menā€™s Basketball continues to add more fresh faces to its recruiting class under new head coach Vance Walberg. The latest members are Horizon League Freshman of the Year David Douglas Jr., NJCAA DIII All-American Jasir Tremble, Joshua Bonga from Germany, and Troy Jenkins from Newport Beach.

Impressive New Recruits

Douglas was the University of Wisconsin ā€” Green Bayā€™s No. 2 scorer last year, averaging 8.5 points per game, the most of any freshman in the Horizon League. He was tabbed as the programā€™s first Horizon League Freshman of the Year and was a finalist for the 2023-24 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year. The 6-foot-5 guard posted 11 double-figure scoring games last season, which included three 20-plus point performances.

Tremble was an NJCAA Division III Second Team All-American this year after averaging 23.4 points per game in his sophomore season. The 6-foot guard was a First Team All-Region selection and region tournament MVP while leading Prince Georgeā€™s CC to a 22-7 record that included Region 20 DIII and Mid-Atlantic District Championships. He was selected to play in the NJCAA Menā€™s Basketball All-Star Game where he went on to be named MVP of the South All-Stars with 28 points, four steals, and two rebounds. He shot 10-of-15 from the field, going 6-of-8 from three-point range.

Bonga played last season in ProA, the second-tier German professional league, and the NBBL, a German league for players under 19. With Rasta Vechta II, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound point guard averaged 6.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. With Quakenbrueck in the NBBL, he helped his U19 team to the NBBL championship while averaging 14.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.5 steals. He was also a member of the U20 German National Team.

Jenkins was the second-leading scorer last season at Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, averaging 8.7 points per game. The 6-foot-4 guard also added 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per outing. Jenkins helped the Saints to an Empire League championship. Before moving to Crean Lutheran, Jenkins played at Sonora High School in La Habra where he was a First Team All-Freeway League in 2023 while leading the Wildcats to a conference championship.

A New Season with New Talent

Douglas and Tremble signed with the team on June 10, and it was announced that Bonga and Jenkins were added on June 23.  Walberg has definitely loaded up at the guard position with these signees. Ever since taking the job on April 6, heā€™s been in search of talented players who can run his dribble drive motion offense.
