Authorities responded to a stabbing Thursday evening at a residence in the 3800 block of East Dakota Avenue that resulted in the death of 26-year-old Dale Whitley, the Fresno Police Department reported.

Witnesses directed officers to 53-year-old Jon Palomino, who was arrested as he attempted to flee.

Officers discovered Whitley lying unresponsive on the ground with a single stab wound to his upper body. He died at the scene.

According to homicide detectives, both Palomino and Whitley were residents of the home, along with several other men.

Investigators are still probing the motive behind the attack, which appears to have been unprovoked.
