Fresno Murder Suspect Arrested After Monday Fatal Shooting

A gunfire report in Fresno’s Southeast Policing District on Monday afternoon led to police finding 42-year-old Yong Vang fatally injured near a parked pickup on North Ninth Street, the Fresno Police Department reported.

Vang was rushed to a nearby hospital but died soon after.

Homicide detectives investigating the incident identified Robert Phompong, 41, as the suspect.

Phompong was apprehended on Wednesday during a search linked to a narcotics and illegal gambling probe in the 3700 block of East Olive Avenue. Despite attempting to flee, he was captured without further incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting and seek the public’s assistance.
