Cal Poly Humboldt has declared that it will remain shut for the rest of the semester due to ongoing protests and the occupation of Siemens Hall and Nelson Hall East.
The university has been grappling with vandalism and theft, leading to the closure of other campus facilities. The semester was originally scheduled to conclude on May 10, but remote instruction and work will continue until then.
The university has offered protesters a chance to vacate the occupied buildings without facing arrest. “The University supports free speech through open dialogue that is respectful and constructive,” a statement from Cal Poly Humboldt read. “That does not include behavior that involves destroying and damaging property, and disrupting students, faculty, and staff from learning, teaching, and working.”
