Beyonce’s latest country album, “Cowboy Carter,” features a track that gives a shoutout to Clovis. The song, “Just for Fun,” includes the lyrics: “And everywhere I go, I hide my face/ From the cowboys in Clovis, and the rodeo circus, I/ Came here for a reason but I don’t know the purpose.” Songwriter Ryan Beatty, a Clovis native, confirmed on Instagram that the lyrics indeed reference his hometown.
Beatty, who gained fame after posting song covers on YouTube in 2011, wrote, “Writing these songs over the last four years has been one of the brightest highlights of my life on earth… Shoutout Dave, Jack, Annie, the cowboys in Clovis etc, etc, etc.”
The Clovis Rodeo Association expressed its excitement over the mention, offering Beyonce and her family tickets to the rodeo. “It’s awesome, Beyonce is a rockstar throughout the music business and to mention the Clovis Rodeo is pretty cool,” said Clovis Rodeo director Ron Dunbar.
