The 78-year-old Fresno man who was killed in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon on Millerton Road has been identified as John Tarter by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
Tarter was driving east near Marina Driver in a 2018 white Toyota Tundra pick-up truck when the collision occurred at about 2:30 p.m.
According to witnesses interviewed by the California Highway Patrol, westbound Ryan Trevino, 35, crossed a solid double yellow line in a 2016 blue Chevrolet Silverado pick-up and smashed into Tarter’s vehicle. Witnesses also described Trevino as driving recklessly.
Tarter died before he could be taken to a hospital. Trevino and a passenger in Tarter’s truck suffered major injuries, according to a CHP report.
Trevino, who was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, previously was arrested in October 2023 on DUI charges, Fresno County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.
