South Africa and Chad have joined a growing list of nations withdrawing their ambassadors from Israel due to the ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. The two countries cited Israel’s disregard for international calls for a humanitarian pause in the fighting as the reason for their decision.
South Africa’s spokesperson for President Cyril Ramaphosa, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, expressed the government’s disappointment in Israel’s refusal to respect international law and United Nations resolutions. Chad also condemned the loss of innocent lives and called for a ceasefire to address the Palestinian issue.
Turkey, Honduras, Bahrain, Jordan, Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile have also recalled their ambassadors. Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized Israel for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, while Honduras cited the severe humanitarian situation as the reason for its decision. Bahrain suspended its economic ties with Israel, and Jordan accused Israel of causing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile also condemned Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Bolivia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani criticized the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive, while Colombia and Chile called for a ceasefire.
The conflict has resulted in the death of more than 10,000 Palestinians and more than 1,400 Israelis. Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue military operations in Gaza with full force.
