Domino’s Pizza announced it would give away $1 million worth of free pizza as the student loan repayments resume this month.
Called the Emergency Pizzas for Students Loans, the pizza chain is offering a free medium two-topping pizza to people with student loan debt through Nov. 9.
“If you’re feeling the pain of having to pay off your student loan, we want to help in our own little way with free pizza,” the website states.
As of Oct. 25, $62,000 of the $1 million had already been claimed. The website says 4,200 codes for free pizza will be released daily.
“Student loan payments have resumed for millions of Americans, and we wanted to help in our own little way by using the power of pizza to do something nice for our customers,” said Kate Trumbull, Domino’s senior vice president and chief brand officer. “When life gives you loans, Domino’s gives you free pizza!”
Student Loans Payments Resume October
After being suspended in March 2020 in response to the pandemic, student loan payments were set to begin again in October.
Nationally, Americans have accrued $1.77 trillion in federal and private student loans as of Q2, 2023, according to finance company Lending Tree. That amount has grown 60% in the past 10 years. The majority comes from the federal government, which currently has $1.65 trillion in outstanding debt to 43.6 million borrowers.
In California, the average balance for a borrower stands at $40,945.
