Shivanthi Sathanandan, a prominent figure of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, who previously called for the dismantling of the Minneapolis Police Department, has changed her stance after falling victim to a violent carjacking incident.

Sathanandan had earlier condemned the police department for failing the black community, advocating for a new infrastructure that would cater to all communities. However, her recent experience of being carjacked and seriously injured outside her home seems to have changed her perspective.

In a Facebook post, she expressed her anger towards the criminals who are still at large. She urged for accountability, particularly for young offenders who are released into the streets, which contradicts her previous position on law enforcement.

Critics argue this highlights the hypocrisy of those who call for defunding the police, but then demand stronger law enforcement when personally affected by crime.

The rise in crime in Minneapolis, disproportionately affecting the black population, is blamed by some on the lenient approach towards crime by left-leaning individuals like Sathanandan.

This incident might serve as a wake-up call, underscoring the necessity of holding criminals accountable for their actions to maintain societal order. It also highlights the potential negative effects of certain policies until they directly impact those who advocate for them.
