Betsy Sandoval, Clovis Unified’s longest-serving trustee until her retirement from the School Board in 2022, died Sunday after a lengthy illness.
Clovis Unified reported Mrs. Sandoval’s death Monday in an email to district staff.
She was first elected to the School Board in 1981 and served until 1993, and then won election again in 1996 and was re-elected in subsequent years to multiple terms representing Area 6. She remained on the board until her final term expired last year.
Mrs. Sandoval graduated from Clovis High School after attending Weldon Elementary and Clovis Grammar School, and she later operated a local insurance agency while serving on the School Board, including four terms as board president.
Love of Clovis Unified Extended to Sandoval’s Family
Clovis Unified was a family affair for Mrs. Sandoval. The district said that all three of her children returned to work for the school district, as did extended family members.
“Throughout her service (she) demonstrated a commitment to our core educational philosophies and values that had a far-reaching impact on our entire community,” the district said.
She is survived by her husband Sam and children Rick, Michelle, and Christine. Those wishing to send cards or condolences to the Sandoval family may do so in care of the Clovis Unified Superintendent’s Office. Services have not been finalized.
