Electric Trucks Lag Behind Diesel Trucks in Freight Efficiency

Electric trucks are currently worse at moving goods than diesel trucks, with higher prices, longer refueling times, and less capacity, the supply chain newsletter FreightWaves reports.

California’s regulation requiring all new drayage trucks to be zero-emissions starting next year is seen as overly ambitious, as electric-truck technology is not yet ready to fully replace diesel trucks.

The state’s charging infrastructure and electric capacity are also insufficient to keep up with the demand created by its own regulations, industry members say.
