The Fresno City Council delayed a vote on imposing penalties on street racers, sideshow participants, and spectators at Thursday’s meeting.
Several councilmembers raised civil liberty concerns about the proposed ordinance and said further review of the proposal was needed.
In addition, District 2 Councilmember Mike Karbassi said the city needed to come up with a plan to reduce red-light running at major intersections.
In the video above, you can hear from Councilmembers Garry Bredefeld and Annalisa Perea, who authored the street racing/sideshow crackdown bill, Police Chief Paco Balderrama, City Attorney Andrew Janz, and Karbassi.
The item is scheduled to return to the city council on Thursday, April 27.
