Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama vowed Monday morning that detectives would solve Saturday’s murder of an 18-year-old mother and her 3-week-old daughter.

Police discovered Yanelly Solorio-Rivera and her baby, Celine Solorio-Rivera, dead in a bedroom of a residence in the 2500 block of South Fruit Avenue shortly after responding to shots fired at 7:20 a.m.

“All acts of murder are unacceptable in our community, But when the victim is an innocent, 3-week-old infant it becomes indescribably horrendous and completely unacceptable.” — Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama

“All acts of murder are unacceptable in our community,” Balderrama said in a news release. “But when the victim is an innocent, 3-week-old infant it becomes indescribably horrendous and
completely unacceptable.

“This senseless crime has not only deeply impacted the lives of a family, but every single first responder on this horrific scene. We will solve this murder and bring justice to the family. Our officers and detectives are diligently working to identify those responsible, and we will not rest until that occurs. ”

Detectives say that Yanelly and Celine were inside their bedroom when someone fired multiple gunshots, striking both victims. Detectives are working with the family, as well as searching for witnesses and video surveillance in hopes of identifying the perpetrator.
