The Creek Fire is well outside Yosemite National Park, but that’s not stopping personnel from taking precautionary measures now.
Rangers have closed the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias just in case the Creek Fire crosses into the park. And crews are taking extra fire protection precautions for critical infrastructure.
The Park remains open, but reservations are required.

“Yosemite’s fire personnel are taking preventative measures now to protect critical park resources and infrastructure,” said Dan Buckley, who is the Yosemite Fire Management Officer.
The southern part of Yosemite is under a fire advisory. It’s in effect south of Chinquapin (this includes Wawona). An advisory message is a notice of danger in the future; it is not an evacuation order.
Fire crews have put a protective wrap around the Mariposa Grove Museum. The wrap is similar to fire shelters that crews can use in an emergency for personal safety. The building wrap is thicker. But while it protects from heat and burning embers, the Forest Service says it’s not fireproof.
Forest Service managers say wrapping a structure is the best protection strategy when it’s too dangerous to stay.
“By taking these preventative measures now, we will be able to more effectively allocate fire resources in response to the Creek Fire,” said Buckley.
