Update, 2 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22: Caltrans reports that Highway 41 is now open between highways 33 and 46.
Original Story
Motorists headed to the central coast via Highway 41 can expect traffic delays after a fuel tanker crashed north of the San Luis Obispo County line at about 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Hazmat crews, the California Highway Patrol, firefighters, and Caltrans are at the scene.
Caltrans says it doesn’t know when Highway 41 will reopen at the Cholame “Y” intersection, but expects the closure to last several hours.
However, there is a detour in place. It redirects motorists along Highway 33 to Highway 46.
State Route 41 north of the Kern county/San Luis Obispo county line is closed due to a traffic collision.
Southbound State Route 41 is closed @ State Route 33.
Northbound State Route 41 is closed @ State Route 46.
The area is expected to be closed for multiple hours. No ETO. pic.twitter.com/x1qqrHTgGV
