How’s this for perfect timing?
The week after Democrats in the House of Representatives launched an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, one of the nation’s top journalists, Robert Costa, is the guest speaker tonight for the President’s Lecture Series at Fresno State.

Costa, a national political reporter with The Washington Post and moderator for “Washington Week” on PBS, will offer insights on President Trump, Congress, and the 2020 presidential election.

Event Information

The 7 p.m. event is free, including parking, and open to the public. Doors to the Save Mart Center will open at 5:30 p.m. to allow time for security measures as guests enter the arena. No backpacks are allowed.

The Format

Following his talk, Costa will moderate a panel of Fresno State students and professors in a discussion of state and national issues. The event will conclude with audience questions.
The panelists are:

  • Lisa Bryant, professor of political science
  • James Rocha, professor of philosophy
  • Omar Hernandez, president-CEO of Associated Students, Inc. and a fourth-year animal-science student
  • Rachel Lewis, a Smittcamp scholar and student journalist for The Collegian and the Madera Tribune

President’s Lecture Series

The President’s Lecture Series features national figures invited by Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro. The series began four years ago.
“Community members who attend this event will learn fascinating and thought-provoking insights from Robert Costa, who has first-hand interactions with President Trump and members of Congress,” Castro said. “I’m pleased to welcome back Mr. Costa, who has developed close ties with our journalism students and faculty since his first campus visit in 2017.”
Past speakers include New York Times columnist David Brooks (2016), presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin (2016), New York Times foreign affairs columnist Thomas L. Friedman (2017), presidential historian Michael Beschloss (2018), and publishing executive Steve Forbes (2019)
